7 Things to do before cataract surgery
Hazy eye sight or unclear vision are some of the symptoms of cataract, which is the condition whereby the lens of the eyes have become less clear, causing visual difficulty for an individual. Early stage of cataract, which does not affect visual clarity, is common among people above the age of 60. However, as time goes by, the lens of the eye will slowly become cloudier and will eventually lead to complete blindness when the lens become opaque.
Procedure you should prepare before the surgery
By carrying out recommended procedures before the surgery, it can help ease the anxiety, nervousness and stress a patient might have prior to the appointed time. Furthermore, by eliminating any undesirable factors, we can play our part in trying to help the treatment goes as smooth as possible.
1. Practice laying upward with cloths covering the face for about 20-30 minutes at a time. This can help the patients get used to breathing underneath the cloths for an extended period of time which is what the patient will have to do in the actual surgery. Some patients might find it uncomfortable to breath, therefore this routine can help the patients get accustom to it when the time comes.
2. Take a full shower before going to the surgery on the actual day.
3. Makeup, cream or other facial cosmetic products should not be used on that day
4. Patients can have breakfast and any medication they should take as per normal except for what the doctor asked not to take such as aspirin.
5. Remove unnecessary jewelry, accessories and denture.
6. If the patients have contracted symptoms such as conjunctivitis, eye irritation and flu, they should check with the doctor to relieve them of these symptoms before surgery
7. The patient should be accompanied by someone who can help them get home as their eyes will be covered up after the surgery
In conclusion, the patient should be mindful of the precaution pre-surgery in order for the operation to go as smoothly as possible. This can help speed up the procedure as well as avoid any complications that might cause due to being unprepared.
