Praram 9 Hospital Shares the Perspective of “Beyond Hospital Walls,” Highlighting Collaboration Between Hospitals and Startups to Create the Future of Smart Healthcare

Praram 9 Hospital shared its perspective on the future of the healthcare system at SPEAR H+ Demo Day, held on August 4, 2026. Dr. Wittaya Wanpen, Deputy Managing Director of Praram 9 Hospital, participated as a speaker on the topic “Beyond Hospital Walls: How Hospitals and Startups Co-Create the Future of Smart Healthcare,” reflecting the concept that healthcare in the future must go beyond treatment within hospitals and rely on collaboration between hospitals and startups to develop innovations that truly meet the needs of both patients and healthcare service systems.
Dr. Wittaya said, “Patients may spend only a few hours in the hospital each year, but spend more than 8,700 hours at home and in their communities. Healthcare should therefore extend to the periods when patients live their lives outside the hospital, whether through health monitoring in daily life, rehabilitation at home, mental health care, or risk alert systems, so that care can take place continuously in daily life.
The healthcare system is shifting from treatment when disease occurs to prevention, from caring for patients on an occasional basis to continuous monitoring, and from waiting for disease to occur to using data and AI to predict risks in advance, with patients at the center of service design to align with each person’s way of life.
Driving this transformation requires the strengths of both hospitals and startups, as startups have the flexibility to experiment with new ideas and design technology with users in mind, while hospitals have clinical expertise, an understanding of actual treatment contexts, data governance systems, and the ability to apply technology in accordance with work processes.
The approach to collaboration should therefore shift from Vendor to Co-Creator, beginning with identifying important clinical problems, co-designing with physicians and patients, testing in actual healthcare facilities, and measuring results in terms of treatment, patient experience, work efficiency, and business value before using feedback to adapt solutions to work systems and expanding them more broadly.”
Dr. Wittaya further said that, for innovation to create real value, Praram 9 Hospital considers three important questions: Does the innovation help improve patient outcomes or experience? Does it make clinical work safer and more convenient? And can it create sustainable value when expanded? If all three aspects can be answered, it is considered an innovation with potential for joint development.
The event also featured presentations of works from 12 HealthTech Startup companies, along with the presentation of certificates recognizing completion of the program. The certificates were jointly signed by three organizations: the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization), Mahidol University, and Praram 9 Hospital. Dr. Satian Pooprasert, Chief Executive Officer of Praram 9 Hospital, participated in the signing as the representative of the organizational partner.
